Psychosocial Rehabilitation

PSR (Psycho-Social Rehabilitation Program) is a program that helps adults with psychiatric disabilities increased their functioning so that they can be successful and satisfied in the environments of their choice. It focuses on skill and resort development related to life in the community and to increasing the participants ability to live as independently as possible, to manage their illness and their lives with as little professional intervention as possible and to participate in community opportunities related to functional, social, educational and vocational goals.

Many people can benefit from psychosocial rehabilitation, but not all people with mental illness require it. For some people, medication, therapy, or a combination of the two treatments may be sufficient to restore functioning. Rehabilitation can be useful when people need additional recovery assistance to help them restore functioning.

No matter what form psychosocial services take, core goals include helping people feel:

  • Empowered
  • Hopeful
  • Skilled
  • Supported
